15 Creative And Cool Ways To Participate In The Teal Pumpkin Project

Halloween is a fun and magical time for children. They get to dress up as their favorite characters, stay up late and canvas the neighborhood collecting all their favorite candies, but what about children with food allergies and restrictions? How fun is Halloween for these children? Sure, they still get to dress up and go out, but when they get home and only have a little bit of candy that they can actually consume, I’m sure they are left feeling heartbroken.

When I was a kid, my favorite part of Halloween was going home and sorting through all my candy. I can’t imagine how I would have felt if my mother had taken most of it away because I couldn’t eat it. Well, in 2014 the Teal Pumpkin Project launched and gave kids with food allergies a chance to have an awesome Halloween. All you have to do to participate is put out a teal pumpkin and purchase some small treats or toys that aren’t candy and give those away instead to kids with food allergies. Here are some creative and cool ways that you can participate in the Teal Pumpkin Project.

Did you participate last year? Share your ideas with us, and share this article to raise awareness!

1. Fabric

Sarah from Sarah Bakes Gluten Free was inspired to participate in the Teal Pumpkin project by her own son who has food allergies. She made this pumpkin by using Mod Podge to adhere fabric to the outside of a plastic pumpkin.

2. Mummy and ombré

How adorable is the little teal mummy pumpkin? And is there anything that you can’t ombré? Lacy from Making it Milk-free even shows you some great ideas for treats to hand out.

3. Stack your pumpkins

Make sure everyone can see that you are participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project by stacking your pumpkins. It would be hard to miss these!
