12 Facts About Filming Marvel"s Newest Hit, "Doctor Strange"

Doctor Strange took Marvel movies further than they’ve ever went.

First, they had Iron Man and his Avengers which was the simple good guys saving the world from a MASSIVE threat.

Then you get the second stringers like Guardians Of The Galaxy, the Marvel sequels and, of course, Doctor Strange.

It was mystical,  time-bending, weird and even brought in spirituality. But the film was cool for a number of other reasons such as…

1. Joaquin Phoenix was supposed to take the role if Benedict Cumberbatch was too focused on his Shakespearean acting… but Phoenix wouldn’t have committed to being in more than one movie.

That’s what the studio would have asked of him.

2. In the movie, Doctor Strange gets training in a mystical Eastern monastery. In real life, actor Benedict Cumberbatch did something similar after high school.

He spent his gap year volunteering as an English teacher at a Buddhist monastery in Darjeeling, India.

3. If you’re a film buff you might recognize that Strange looks like Hollywood actor Vincent Price, who played a lot of creepy guys on screen.

Doctor Strange’s original creators Stan Lee and Steve Ditko said they designed the character after the famed actor.

4. The director was a MASSIVE Doctor Strange FAN and dropped some serious money on a concept video and pitched to Marvel so he’d get the job.

They clearly loved director Scott Derrickson’s take and hired him.
