20 Historical Photos That Raise The Question Of How Humans Are Still Around

I adore studying history. Each moment is its own story with a ripple effect that created the world we’re in today. So when those moments are captured on camera, it’s a history lover’s dream. A picture’s worth a thousand words, as they say.

There have been a lot of amazing moments in history captured in photographs, but there have been even more photographs that should go back where they came from.

These pictures are just a few examples of said moments. It makes me wonder: how many disturbing moments could we have captured if the camera had been invented earlier? I shudder to think…

1. Ku Klux Klan child greeting a black trooper.

This photograph proves that people learn hate, they aren’t born with it.The picture was taken during a KKK rally in Gainesville, Ga. in 1992 as the white supremacist group tried to breathe some life back into their cause. About 66 KKK representatives showed up, with 100 observers who came mostly to demonstrate against the KKK.

2. A Chinese woman’s feet after foot binding

The practice of foot binding was where women’s feet were bound and broken, apparently as a way to demonstrate status and beauty in China through their small feet. The women could then no longer walk, so were carried around. It is guessed to have started during the Song dynasty in the 11th century, with the last company that made the foot bound “lotus” shoes closing in 1999.

3. Wax figures after a fire

This incredibly creepy photograph shows destroyed figures from Madame Tussaud’s wax museum after a fire on Mar. 19, 1925 in London, U.K. A witness at the scene said the flames reached heights of 50 feet, and that they could hear the figurines sizzling.

4. Concentration camp survivor draws “home”

This girl named Tereszka grew up in a concentration camp. At a home for emotionally disturbed children in Warsaw in 1948, Tereszka drew what “home” looked like to her during a class. It’s unclear whether the girl was overwhelmed by the request, or perhaps it represents the barbed wire of the camp. If you think that’s disturbing, check out number five.
