13 Things That Shouldn"t Have Fallen From The Sky

According to recent reports from the Xinhua News Agency, China’s Tiangong-1 space station is expected to have a rough reunion with Earth in 2017. In the months leading up to this announcement, American satellite tracker Thomas Dorman noticed that the space station seemed to be spinning out of control and it appears he was right.

The Tiangong-1 mission ended back in March and reports suggest there wasn’t enough fuel to attempt re-entry. The station has just drifted ever since while everyone watching it has waited for nature to take its course. Yet when the Tiangong-1 finally finds its way back home, it won’t be the first time that something unusual has suddenly rained from the sky.

In fact, these falling surprises have been reported for thousands of years and ancient Greek philosopher Heraclides Lembus wrote about the streets of Dardania, Rome filling with falling frogs back in the second century B.C.

While it may be tempting to chalk this report up to the kind of fanciful bunk that produced tales of fearsome sea monsters, it’s not far off from what we’ve experienced in modern times.

I know it’s hard to believe, so let’s have a look at 13 cases where peculiar things unexpectedly fell out of the sky.

Be sure to SHARE this and let others know what surprises can come from above.

1. Meat

Teenaged horseback rider Cassie Bernard was mysteriously pelted by falling chicken meat four years ago, but the most famous case comes from all the way back in 1876. Back then, a shower of mysterious meat that resembled mutton or venison fell over Olympia Springs, Kentucky.Birds are the most likely reason for both cases because seagulls are known to carry chicken parts and vultures will eat just about anything. The meat in the Kentucky incident is now understood to be horse tissue that a vulture couldn’t stomach.

2. Golf Balls

This was not a simple bad shot but rather a barrage of balls that suddenly fell from the sky in Florida. It’s still unknown what caused this dangerous shower, but the most plausible answer is that they were launched into the air by a water spout passing under a golf course.

3. A Shark

We’ve unfortunately never experienced a full Sharknado, but a two-foot leopard shark did suddenly drop onto a golf course in Southern California back in 2012. Amazingly, the shark survived its unpleasant encounter with the 12th hole tee where, judging by the puncture marks on its body, it was likely dropped by a bird.

4. Spiders

Sorry to tell you, but it’s entirely possible that spiders could suddenly rain from the sky. Whenever they want to go somewhere new, they wave around a silk strand until an air current picks them up. Many die on the way, but some will land safely and start a colony in their new home.
