Ex-US Special Forces Soldier Makes Full Transition

The awareness of issues facing transgendered people has most definitely been raised over the last several years. With notable figures like Caitlyn Jenner and Laverne Cox becoming public faces of the trans experience, more and more people have felt comfortable becoming the person they have always wanted to be in public.

One trans woman is getting some major attention for undergoing one of the most shocking transitions people have ever seen. As a US Special Forces soldier, 32-year-old Alana McLaughlin was the epitome of masculinity. She never felt like a man, though, an issue she would address after leaving the military. Let’s just say she has made quite the transition!

Meet Alana McLaughlin, a former US Army Special Forces soldier who has spent time in major combat situations.

“I wouldn’t say that I felt like I was in the wrong body as much as I was in the wrong role,” she said in an interview.

Alana fully immersed herself in this masculine military experience. As you can see, bodybuilding was also a big part of her life.

“I joined the military initially because I felt like it was my only option to either force myself into manhood somehow or die,” Alana said. No matter how much masculinity she tried to inject into her life, she still cried herself to sleep at night knowing that something about her identity just wasn’t right.

When looking at this photograph of “Ryan” in combat, Alana reveals that all she sees is “an empty suit of armor.”

She felt that she needed to join the military and play the masculine role to satisfy her family’s demands.

Alana knew from a young age that she was female.

When she had approached his family about feeling like a woman and being gay, his father dismissed him and assumed it was a result of his sexual abuse as a child. Alana said that she knows very well that this isn’t the case. She left the military in 2010 and began her journey into womanhood via hormone therapy.

She immediately experiences self-doubt in this journey…
