15 Of The Most Iconic Photos Taken Before You Were Born




I love digging through the archives of yesterday’s priceless moments.


It’s a reminder that no matter how weird, sad, happy or even horrifying the world has gotten in years past, this little blue marble just keeps spinning in space. It spun before we were here and it’ll spin after we’ve made ourselves extinct or inhabited faraway planets. It’s reassuring.


What I did for this article was try and find pictures that you (hopefully) haven’t seen 100 times before. I wanted these to be unique, so if they aren’t, I apologize.

1. Apollo 11 | July 16, 1969


The first space flight to land humans on the moon. Some have argued this is the best photograph ever taken.




2. “Wait for me, daddy!” | October 1, 1940


Canadian soldier during WWII being chased by his son before he goes off to war. The photo was taken by Claude P. Dettloff and then used by the Canadian government as propaganda so people would buy more war bonds.











3. Ali knocks out Williams | Nov. 14, 1966


It took Ali just three rounds in front of the record crowd of 35,460 inside the Houston Astrodome to knock out Cleveland ‘Big Cat’ Williams and retain his Heavyweight belt.

Adele’s new song “Hello” is perfect listening for anyone who wants to unnecessarily relive the emotional trauma of having your heart shattered into a billion pieces. The song is about the failures of reconnecting with a loved one after painful years apart. If you can get through the song without having a crippling, tear-soaked breakdown, then you likely have no heart. You also might find that the lyrics are uncannily similar to a drunken text you might send your ex. Mary Caldera noticed this similarity and decided to test it out on her ex-boyfriend, Matt. Poor Matt clearly didn’t get the reference. Naturally, Matt assumed Mary was just drunk texting him, and his deadpan and confused response is brilliant. If you think Mary was cruel for texting Matt and getting his hopes up, well, she didn’t stop there. She also posted the entire exchange on Twitter, much to our delight!
