Parenthood comes with its struggles, and nobody knows this better than Lauren Ball. As her son’s birthday inched closer and closer, he continued to ask his beloved mother for a SpongeBob SquarePants themed birthday party. Even though she didn’t have much money to spare, she promised her son that she would make it happen.











So Lauren made a sacrifice. 













She gave her son the party he always wanted, but in doing so found her bank account looking pretty empty. So she did what any hardworking mother would do — she picked up a midnight shift at the local restaurant where she worked. 




She had no idea how important that shift would end up being.

The song is about the failures of reconnecting with a loved one after painful years apart. If you can get through the song without having a crippling, tear-soaked breakdown, then you likely have no heart. You also might find that the lyrics are uncannily similar to a drunken text you might send your ex. Mary Caldera noticed this similarity and decided to test it out on her ex-boyfriend, Matt. Poor Matt clearly didn’t get the reference. Naturally, Matt assumed Mary was just drunk texting him, and his deadpan and confused response is brilliant. If you think Mary was cruel for texting Matt and getting his hopes up, well, she didn’t stop there. She also posted the entire exchange on Twitter, much to our delight!
