13 Interesting Judy Garland Secrets

Of all the movies that have been made throughout the entire history of film, I feel as if there are only a select few that a person most DEFINITELY has to see at least once in their life. And much like the world of literature, they most certainly have to be seen at a certain stage in ones life. For instance, I have always felt, and still do to this day, that The Wizard Of Oz must be viewed before a child reaches the age of 10. I mean, of course they can watch it as many times as they like, but if they’re well into their teens the first time they see it, there’s almost no chance they’ll get to enjoy the magic and spirit of the film.

What makes the movie so great, besides literally EVERYTHING, is Judy Garland’s performance. She is so perfect in her role as Dorothy! But a lot of people don’t realize that Garland has done a lot of other things in her career.

Check out these fun facts.

1. Her real name is Frances Ethel Gumm.

She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan back in 1922.

2. She started performing quite young.

Her first time on stage was at the age of 2 and she performed with her two older sisters throughout her entire childhood.

3. She was terribly scared of thunder.

This fear stayed with her throughout most of her life.

4. In school she claimed to learn better when she wasn’t wearing a left shoe.

Seriously. She used to take off her left shoe while in class.
