What Each Olympic Medal Is Actually Worth
The Olympic Games are truly amazing. The event consists of so many different sports and has athletes from nearly every nation competing against one another. Despite this, most athletes tend to remain civil and people often put aside their differences simply because they love their sport. No matter how civil, athletes are there for one reason and that’s to win medals for themselves and their country. Looking at an Olympic medal is mesmerizing because it signifies such a high standard of success. Personally, I always assumed they were made from their respective names, which sadly isn’t the case. For medals that are so sought after, how much are they actually worth?
So, how much are these beauties worth? In total, 2488 medals were created for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

To understand their value, you need to know what each medal is actually made of. Each medal weighs 500g and consists of multiple metals.

The “bronze” medal consists of 475 grams of copper and 25 grams of zinc. It can’t be worth much, right?

Sadly, its material value is only $2.50, though I’m assuming Olympians compete to win, not to sell their medals.
