This Box Was Left At A Shelter, And It Smelled HORRIBLY. Then They Opened It...

All too often we hear about cases of animal cruelty. As sad as it is, this likely no longer comes as a surprise to many people since it happens so often. This story is as heartbreaking as any other and it all started when a taped up box was left at the San Jose Animal Care Center. The box wreaked of a horrible odour, but when the workers were given the box, they were told that there was injured dog inside it that seriously needed help. Well, they cut the tape off and opened the box to find a small dog that they named Pandora. This is where the bad news starts to come into play, but before you’re forced to endure it, just know that there is a very happy ending to this story. On with the story!

After opening the box, Pandora the dog was revealed. Her fur was matted, covered in feces, and she looked like she had sustained some kind of injury to her shoulder. Despite all of this, as well as being taped in a box, Pandora was actually relatively calm and didn’t mind being touched. The people at the San Jose Animal Care Center began grooming her and revealed something troubling. Much to their dismay, the “injury,” on her shoulder wasn’t actually an injury, it was a mass. They kept Pandora for a few days in hopes of an owner arriving to claim her, but sadly no one came. After a small amount of time elapsed, they washed her, treated her for fleas, removed some teeth, removed two masses, spayed her, and removed her umbilical hernia. This dog had gone through a lot, but she wasn’t giving up and neither were the workers. They sent off tissue from the mass to the lab and later received results confirming that the largest mass was cancerous. While that may seem like bad news, they were actually delighted because they found out that the particular cancer that caused that mass hadn’t spread and it would be entirely removed if the mass was removed, which it was. Pandora made her recovery and became a completely healthy, well-functioning dog again. She was then adopted within three days of being put up for adoption.
