10 Movie Endings That Made You Go "Huh?" Finally Explained




I love watching a movie that gets me thinking, but do you ever find that you’ve finished a movie and all you can think to yourself is, “What?” or “That’s it?” These puzzling films are a lot of fun to debate with your friends, but at the end of the day, you just really want to know what happened. 1. Interstellar


The ending: Cooper wakes up to find his daughter Murphy aged and on her deathbed. At her request, he begins to travel to Edmunds’ habitable planet to join Dr. Brand (who has not aged at all) and start a new human colony on the planet. 




But how? 


Prior to reconnecting with Murphy, Coop traveled through a black hole and experienced a fifth dimension that allows beings from the future to use time travel to pass messages. With Cooper in the black hole, he is able to pass Murphy the information she needs to finish Dr. Brand’s equation. He wakes up in the future, says goodbye to his now aged daughter, and travels back in time through the wormhole to meet Dr. Brand on Edmunds. 











2. Shutter Island


The ending: Teddy Daniels turns out to be a hallucination of a patient named Andrew Laeddis, and the whole movie up until this point had been an elaborate role-playing exercise aided by hospital staff. The final scene of the movie sees Andrew relapsing into his Teddy Daniels persona and promptly being carried away for a lobotomy. 




Wait, what?


The ending suggests that Andrew knowingly relapses back into Teddy Daniels so that he can “kill” (through the lobotomy) the character and his mental illness once and for all. This theory is enforced by his last line, “Which would be worse? To live as a monster or die as a good man?”

Adele’s new song “Hello” is perfect listening for anyone who wants to unnecessarily relive the emotional trauma of having your heart shattered into a billion pieces. The song is about the failures of reconnecting with a loved one after painful years apart. If you can get through the song without having a crippling, tear-soaked breakdown, then you likely have no heart. You also might find that the lyrics are uncannily similar to a drunken text you might send your ex. Mary Caldera noticed this similarity and decided to test it out on her ex-boyfriend, Matt. Poor Matt clearly didn’t get the reference. Naturally, Matt assumed Mary was just drunk texting him, and his deadpan and confused response is brilliant. If you think Mary was cruel for texting Matt and getting his hopes up, well, she didn’t stop there. She also posted the entire exchange on Twitter, much to our delight!
