Yeezus! Kanye"s Mouth Goes Off Again, And This Time He"s Making Sense!

Kanye West hasn’t always been known to make headlines for the right reasons. Sure, when an album of his drops, it’s a big deal. But as much as his mouth has made him a musical legend, it’s also gotten him into trouble. It’s fair to say his ego has played a role in that as well. And so it’s almost surprising to hear him make so much sense with his recent comments about games for kids. Maybe fatherhood has sharpened his focus, but his Twitter rant actually struck chords with a lot of parents.

“F*** any game company that puts in-app purchases on kids games!!!” he wrote.

No word on what game in particular North was playing — it’s understandable if Kanye didn’t want to give the game or company any publicity whatsoever. But it’s easy to imagine scores of parents echoing his sentiment.

“That makes no sense!!! We give the iPad to our child and every 5 minutes there’s a new purchase!!!” he continued.

“If a game is made for a 2 year old, just allow them to have fun and give the parents a break for Christ sake.” After that outburst, Kanye finally heard applause for more than just his music.

However, there’s some irony to Kanye’s rant. His wife, Kim Kardashian, has an app game, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, that hasn’t received glowing reviews for its in-app purchases from parents.

One parent — New York Times bestselling author Ayelet Waldman — took Kim to task over a $120 iTunes bill that her daughter racked up playing Hollywood over two days. Her response to Kanye’s rant? “Kanye, as ur wife once explained: ‘You just have to be responsible, and don’t have your credit card linked to where your kid can just spend."”

No reply from Kanye, of course. He’s said his piece. And it’s legit: parents are fed up with shocks on their phone bills from their kids playing so-called free games. 

Whether Kanye’s rant will lead to any marital strife remains to be seen, but he’s brought the debate to the fore: is it time for a moratorium on in-app purchases in games for kids? Or are the safeguards already in place enough? What do you think?
