Parking lots are a commonly used place, but have you ever taken the time to think of the potential dangers within them? Due to the clutter and the sheer size of cars, it’s extremely easy to crouch and hide behind/between the vehicles in a parking lot. Unfortunately, some people use this fact to prey on unsuspecting individuals who are just trying to get into their cars. Not only is this the ideal location for predators to hide lurk about due to the hiding spots, but most people are often distracted or unaware of their surroundings while approaching their car, making them easy targets.

No one is immune to a surprise attack. This is especially true when you’re walking through a parking lot while distracted by your cell phone and completely unaware of your surroundings. This can lead to being kidnapped and thrown into the trunk of a car, rendering you completely helpless. It is of utmost importance to be observant and check your surroundings while approaching your vehicle. This also includes paying attention to any strangers who are lurking nearby (they could be faking it). Walking towards your car at a fast pace is also a good idea. If you see anyone that makes you feel uncomfortable, stare them down until they back off. Preparing your keys (so you can sound the alarm) and having a free hand while leaving a store (or wherever you may be), are also good ideas.
