13 Police Calls Where Things Got Supernatural

When someone decides that they want to be a police officer, they likely feel the call to protect and serve their community. When they take on this responsibility, they do so with the understanding that the job can carry some serious risks. While the amount of time they spend training to deal with these risks varies across the country, there are some things that nothing can prepare you for.

Namely, what happens if you get a frantic call where a citizen is reporting a ghost attack?

Whether you believe in ghosts or not, that call has to be treated just like any other and an officer needs to check it out. Most of the time, these calls are easy enough to explain when the officer arrives. Either the caller thought they saw something that wasn’t really there or it turned out to be the work of pranksters.

Yet sometimes, the officer walks away from the situation just as bewildered as the person who called it in. In these rare occasions, even the most experienced cops can feel a shiver when they think about that one call they couldn’t explain.

So today, we’ve collected 13 of these haunting calls that responders have shared on reddit. Not all of them came away believing in ghosts, but all of them gained a new story to tell when a full moon strikes.

1. A New Mexico sheriff has a special reason to think he was visited by a dead friend.

A local reporter named Bob D. liked to play jokes on people by flicking their ears from behind so they thought a bug was bothering them. Bob was well-liked by the sheriff’s department and after he died, cops and civilians alike claimed to see him at the scenes of car wrecks and fires.The sheriff didn’t believe this until one night when he started noticing his ear itching while he was watching TV. Just when his wife asked why he was scratching so much, their bedroom door opened and both apparently saw Bob standing there as clear as day.The sheriff said Bob smiled at his trademark prank before walking out the front door.

2. Two cops got a big scare while searching an old crematorium.

One thought they saw movement on the ground floor and was calling for their partner when they suddenly heard him scream that there was a jumper hanging out a window above him. The partner, who they called J, screamed that the man had jumped before he could make it to him. When the officer rushed outside, they saw nothing. While J swears to this day that he saw someone jump to their death, neither of them found any sign of the body at the scene.

3. An officer found a car with a disappearing driver.

The car was left in a church parking lot, and the cop didn’t see anyone inside when they pulled up. Figuring the car was stolen and dumped, they moved behind it to run the plates.As they started to do this, the officer suddenly saw someone in the driver’s seat staring back at them through the rearview mirror. Yet when they pulled up to the side of the vehicle again, nobody was there.

4. A Wyoming cop was baffled by blood-curdling screams.

A resident in the area reported hearing screams coming from a nearby creek, and when the officer responded, they started to hear the screams too. The officer couldn’t make out any words, but it sounded like a woman in severe distress.The screams got louder as the officer and their partner approached the creek, and the sound seemed to last about 10-15 seconds each time. Once they arrived, the screams suddenly stopped for about five minutes.Then, the screams got so loud that they seemed to come from right next to the officers, but neither saw any evidence that anything was near them no matter how feverishly they searched. 

Believe it or not, another cop heard something even creepier than phantom screams.
