Mom Puts Her Baby In The Crib, Then Notices A HORRIFYING Danger In Plain Sight!

Having a child comes with a great deal of “childproofing.” Most people take many precautions to ensure the safety of their child, such as padding sharp corners and edges. Similarly, many parents resort to padded crib bumpers in order to prevent bodily harm to their child. Experts, however, claim that crib bumpers are actually extremely hazardous to the safety of children, making them counterproductive. If a baby happens to roll into the padding while he or she sleeps, it can potentially cut off the baby’s air supply. The American Academy of Pediatrics states that parents should not be using padded bumpers because of the severe risk of asphyxiation and suffocation that is present with them.

Despite this warning, the item is still available for purchase across the nation. A study shows that bumpers pads were responsible for 77 infantile deaths between the years of 1995 and 2012. While this may not seem like a large number, they are deaths that are easily preventable. However, suffocation is not the only risk associated with crib bumpers. Dr. Bradley Thach, professor of pediatrics at the St. Louis Children’s Hospital, told ABC News, “If the pads are too soft, the baby’s nose or face can get pressed up against it, and the baby suffocates. If they are too firm, the baby can climb up on the pads and fall out of the crib.” In 2013, a mother found her baby dead in his crib. She believed it was due to the presence of the crib bumper and that he had become entangled in the materials. To date, the city of Chicago and the state of Maryland have banned the sale of crib bumpers.
