16 Shocking Things People Found In Their Own Homes

It’s every child’s dream, and one that stays with us for the remainder of our lives, sneaking up on us when we least expect it: the promise of buried treasure.

But while the stories you read often place the treasure hunt on some deserted island, there are precious items stashed away in some ordinary places as well.

From millions of dollars to entire rooms long forgotten, these people have found some seriously cool items hidden in their homes. So be careful reading this — you may end up ripping down your walls.

1. A man found a secret basement in his home after living there for two YEARS!

The man posted a gallery of ultimate creepiness. A person had filled the basement with food, chemistry equipment, and sexual education information about rape and incest. The hole was referred to by the previous mysterious owner as a “palace.” Major shudders on my part.

2. Also in a basement? This hidden servant’s kitchen.

That’s right, an entire freaking KITCHEN was hiding in this person’s basement. It hadn’t been touched in more than 60 years, but thought to date back to the 1830s.

3. A mysterious Mayan mural was found in this Guatemalan home.

During a renovation, this family chipped away at plaster to find an ancient Mayan mural hiding beneath their home.

4. A serious amount of heavy artillery, ammunition, and grenades were found in this guy’s basement.

A man moved into his first house, and two-weeks in found a secret cubby in his basement covered by plywood. The previous owner packed the four-feet by four-feet room with gun cases, grenades, ammunition, and other scary crap. I’d rather find what the owner of number 7 discovered!
