Meet The Baby Who Has Two Birthdays

For most of us, we have one birthday that we cherish almost more than any other day in the year. You might be asking, “Who has more than one birthday?” In fact, it’s entirely possible. You may not know, but in some rare cases a fetus will be removed from the mother to undergo a lifesaving procedure, and then placed back into the mother to continue development. This is exactly what happened to baby LynLee after doctors discovered something terrible in a routine 16-week scan.

You have read baby LynLee’s story….

COMMENT on Facebook with your thoughts on this remarkable procedure. Have you ever heard of a baby having two birthdays before?

Sixteen weeks into their pregnancy, Margaret and Hawkins Boemer received horrible news from their doctors concerning the state of their baby.

The couple from Plano, Texas found out that their baby had a rare tumor (sacrococcygeal teratoma). Their doctor told them that the fetus was directly competing for blood with the tumor in Margaret’s womb.

Here is the scan that revealed the tumor to doctors.

Their baby’s tumor, which occurs once every 30,000 – 70,000 births, needed to be removed, and it needed to happen before she was born. When asked about the severity of the baby’s situation, Dr. Darrell Cass explained to CNN, “In some instances, the tumor wins and the heart just can’t keep up and the heart goes into failure and the baby dies.”

Margaret and Hawkins had to make the decision to either not continue with the pregnancy or take part in a procedure that would involve removing the fetus prematurely.

“It was an easy decision for us: We wanted to give her life,” Margaret said.

The doctors weren’t going to just take out the baby. They were going to remove the baby’s tumor and put her back inside her mom for further development.

Against all odds, the surgery was a complete success! This is even more remarkable considering LynLee’s heart basically stopped during the surgery. Dr. Cass credits his team, which included a heart specialist, for pulling off the surgery successfully. After the surgery, Margaret was placed on bed rest for the remaining 12 weeks of her pregnancy. At that point, it was time for LynLee to come out for good!

You have to see baby LynLee after she was born the second time…
