She Delivers A Healthy Baby, But 3 Weeks Later, Doctors Drop This Bombshell
At the age of 26, Holly Gerlach gave birth to her first child. As it would be for most people, this was an extremely joyful time for Holly, and when she was released from the hospital, she was overwhelmed with happiness. She was able to go home with her baby girl, Casey, but things took a turn for the worse. Holly started to notice a pain in her neck and was beginning to feel less stable on her legs. Over the next three weeks, her symptoms worsened at an alarming rate, that is, until Holly was completely paralyzed. She was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder known as Guillain-Barre syndrome. Holly was unable to move or even breathe on her own.
Holly was stuck in the hospital, unable to move and breathe while her newborn baby was at home. She was admitted to the ICU and spent two and a half months breathing through a ventilator (and later tracheotomy tube) and being fed through a tube in her stomach. During this time, she experienced all kinds of pain, but became inspired when she met a Guillain-Barre survivor. Over time she began to learn how to walk, talk, and to finally experience motherhood for the first time. The story is truly a heartbreaking one, but Holly is now able to function normally once more. Watch the beautiful video below to see Holly’s complete transformation.
