Transgender Marine Will Be Recognized As A Man By The U.S. Military

The U.S. Military used to have a ban on gay or lesbian individuals serving in the military. Of course that didn’t stop them and as long as they didn’t say anything, no one knew. Similarly, there has been a ban on transgender people serving in the military — forcing those who had been recruited to not say anything. But things are changing. The bans on gay, lesbian, and transgender people in the armed forces are being lifted. One man has finally been able to be open and honest about who he is thanks to the lifted ban. For the first time in a long time, he feels comfortable in his own skin.

Lance Corporal Aaron Wixson was born Arielle.

Growing up, he always wanted to dress as a boy.

He came out as a lesbian in high school.

But then he was diagnosed with gender dysphoria, which means he identified differently to the gender he was born as.

He joined the U.S. Military in 2014.

When he did, it was as a woman.

He had not yet made the transition from female to male.

Shortly after he told his command that he was transgender, he started hormone replacement treatment within the military healthcare system and hopes to have his breasts removed before treatment ends in May of next year.
