So, I have a confession to make. Even though The Departed came out back in 2006 and was critically acclaimed by almost all film critics, I didn’t actually watch it for the first time until this year. That’s right, it took me over 10 years to watch it. Sue me. 

The movie, as most of us now know, is truly incredible. It has action, romance, comedy, drama and a whole lot of F-bombs. But what went into the making of the film?

Here are a few facts most fans don’t know about the movie. 

1. The filmmakers brought in a real-life detective as an adviser to the film. 

Former Boston Police Department detective Tom Duffy played a crucial part in making sure the filmmakers accurately depicted the Boston crime scene. 

2. Over 50% of the film’s budget went towards the actors’ salaries.

To put that into perspective, the film’s budget was somewhere around $90 million. 

3. The F-word is said 237 times in the film.
