16 Facts You Never Knew About "The Santa Clause"

You probably have a list of Christmas cult classics that you watch each and every holiday season. For me, these films include The Holiday, A Christmas Story, Home Alone, and, of course, The Santa Clause. There’s so many things I love about this last film. Sweet and innocent Charlie, the split-family drama, and the magical ending are definitely some of them. It would also be a crime to not mention how phenomenal Tim Allen is in his role of Scott Calvin/Santa Claus. It’s no wonder that this wildly successful film went on to produce two sequels, and I’ll definitely be watching this movie in the coming weeks. So if you love this Christmas classic as much as I do, read ahead for 16 facts you never knew about The Santa Clause!

1. The original film was never supposed to include a child as one of the main characters.

The original movie was also supposed to be called “Such a Clatter.” Thank goodness for the title change and the addition of Charlie.

2. The main role of Scott Calvin/Santa Claus was written around Bill Murray.

I could totally see Bill Murray as the gruff Scott Calvin!

3. The role of Scott Calvin/Santa Claus was originally offered to Chevy Chase.

The actor was forced to turn down the film due to scheduling conflicts.

4. Tim Allen was almost not hired for the leading role in the film!

At the time, Disney had a policy of not hiring anyone with a criminal record. Tim was arrested in 1978 and served two years and four months in prison before being released. But Disney chose to hire him anyways for the sake of the film!
