Ellen DeGeneres Receives Medal From Obama And Makes Everyone Cry Happy Tears
This week, Barack Obama gave out the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom to 21 recipients, including Ellen DeGeneres. The medal is the highest civilian award that can be given in the United States and is given to civilians who contribute substantially to issues related to world peace as well as other significant cultural endeavors. The Medal of Freedom has classically been given out to honor contributions to civil rights issues in the United States.
You have to see the moment when Ellen received the award… priceless.

At a time when it was still very unpopular to come out as a homosexual in public, Ellen DeGeneres stood up and proudly let the world know that she was a lesbian.

Ellen even had a “coming out” episode on her ABC sitcom Ellen, marking one of the first times that a major character on mainstream television came out as being gay.

Everyone is talking about the incredibly emotional ceremony in which Ellen received the medal from President Obama.

White House staff had these very kind words to say about Ellen’s significant contributions. You can see how she can barely believe what is happening as she listens.
