Southwest Airlines Turns Lights Pink In Solidarity With Passengers Heading To Women"s March

On Saturday, January 21st, more than 200,000 are expected to attend the Women’s March in Washington. These marchers are coming from all over the United States and the world, filling planes and buses over the last couple of days as they make their way to the nation’s capital. On one Southwest flight, the passengers were surprised when the interior mood lighting turned a shocking shade of pink.

“It was unexpected and unannounced,” Jennifer Moran, a passenger aboard the flight told NBC. “There was no announcement explicitly from the staff and no one screamed this is for the March.”

“Nothing, just spontaneous and everyone knew exactly why they were cheering.”

The plane was full of men and women on their way to Washington, D.C. for the Women’s March on Washington.

Many were strangers but bonded over their common destination.

Southwest Airlines released a statement indicating that the pink lights are not a company-wide initiative, but flight crews often choose to use the mood lighting to acknowledge special passengers on board.

“For example,” they added, “in October, one of our Flight Crews changed the lighting to honor a breast cancer survivor on board their flight.”

It’s an explosion of pink!

How do you feel about the crew’s choice to change the lighting for this particular flight?
