"SNL" Writer Of "Homeschool Shooter" Joke About Barron Trump Has Been Suspended Indefinitely

Earlier this week, we told you about Chelsea Clinton taking a stance against the rash of bullying being directed at 10-year-old Barron Trump. While the issue had been escalating since Election Day, it all came to a head when the Saturday Night Live Twitter account posted a joke stating that Barron “will be this country’s first homeschool shooter.” That tweet has since been deleted, but that didn’t prevent the outrage.

While anger over the bullying had been steadily growing, the denouncement from Clinton, a former child of the White House who had also been made fun of, finally tipped it over into true outrage.

The SNL tweet was written by Katie Rich, who has been on the show’s writing staff since 2013.

Not only was the joke deleted from the SNL Twitter account, but she ended up deleting her personal account as well.

It didn’t take long for a petition to launch online to have her fired for the tweet, and it took even less time for it to reach more than 100,000 signatures.

“NBC needs to put their money where their mouth is and fire Katie Rich if they truly believe that there is no tolerance for bullying,” the petition says.

News sources are now reporting that Rich has been suspended indefinitely from her position with the show, and her name did not appear in the credits on January 21st.

Rich’s Twitter account has also been reactivated, and she posted a public apology on the 23rd.

Do you think her firing was warranted, or was the punishment too harsh? Tell us in the COMMENTS, and don’t forget to SHARE this story too!
