Police Officers Break Down A Fence To Rescue Mother And Child From Fire

We never think it will happen to us… and we hope it never does.

But everything can change in a matter of moments, everything can be taken away, consumed in a furious fire. The panic, the horror, and the danger is overwhelming, and losing everything you’ve worked so hard to maintain is devastating. But imagine adding a 2-year-old to the mix?

The residents of a two-story apartment complex near N.W. 28th St. and May Ave in Oklahoma City were victim to that nightmare on August 25, 2016.

Luckily for them, some brave officers came to the rescue.

This is their story.

Officers responded to a two-alarm apartment fire.

It was 3am. While most citizens were fast asleep, these officers were already suited up and prepared to save some lives.

They arrived to find their way blocked by a privacy fence.

The fence obstructed access to the apartment.

A woman woke up to some strange sounds. When she opened the door to investigate, she was greeted with flames.

Takia Harding’s first thought was that she needed to save her mother and her 2-year-old son.

Officers ran to the back of the building and tore the fence down. Takia and her 2-year-old child were trapped on the second floor.

Sgt. David Hollis of the Oklahoma City Police Department didn’t hesitate. He ripped the fence down with his bare hands.
