Nothing stirs up nostalgia for the good old days quite like pinup girls do. Sure, these portraits of idealized American sweethearts were overly flirtatious, overly curvaceous, and a touch risqué, but there was also something quaint about them. The women somehow seem both wildly independent and stay-at-home adorable. Both fun-loving and safe enough to bring home to meet your mother. 


So here are 10 pinup girls painted by Gil Elvgren shown alongside their original models. It’s interesting to see what gets left out of the painting, what makes it in, and what gets… enhanced. It’s like the original photoshop airbrushing! We’ve even tried our hand at replicating some of the cheesy captions that always used to accompany each picture!

Adele’s new song “Hello” is perfect listening for anyone who wants to unnecessarily relive the emotional trauma of having your heart shattered into a billion pieces. The song is about the failures of reconnecting with a loved one after painful years apart. If you can get through the song without having a crippling, tear-soaked breakdown, then you likely have no heart. You also might find that the lyrics are uncannily similar to a drunken text you might send your ex. Mary Caldera noticed this similarity and decided to test it out on her ex-boyfriend, Matt. Poor Matt clearly didn’t get the reference. Naturally, Matt assumed Mary was just drunk texting him, and his deadpan and confused response is brilliant. If you think Mary was cruel for texting Matt and getting his hopes up, well, she didn’t stop there. She also posted the entire exchange on Twitter, much to our delight!
