This Insane Fan Theory About Dementors Links "Harry Potter" Directly To "Fantastic Beasts"

Now that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is out, Potterheads around the world have been busy trying to spot all the Easter eggs in the movie that link to the Harry Potter universe. Most of them are pretty obvious for anyone who’s even casually watched the movies. But some of the others are a little bit harder to catch! Some of the references in Fantastic Beasts have actually inspired fans to come up with theories about how the two movie series connect! And this particular theory about Dementors completely makes sense and connects everything together! Are you ready to have your mind blown?

By the way, this article is filled with spoilers so ride your broomstick to see the movie in theaters before you read about the fan theory!

Before we dive into the fan theory, can we all just take a moment to talk about just how good Fantastic Beasts is?!

I’m not going to lie, I was internally screaming the whole time.

Listen, I loved Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander. But really, my favorite moments in the movie had to do with the Niffler!

I would have a Niffler as a pet ASAP if they were real.

Now back to the movie and the fan theory, did you notice Newt’s Hufflepuff scarf? That was one of the callbacks to the Harry Potter universe.

But there’s something else that might have a bigger link to the events in Harry Potter and it has to do with Dementors.

FRIENDLY REMINDER THAT SPOILERS ARE UP AHEAD! PROCEED WITH CAUTION!

Adele’s new song “Hello” is perfect listening for anyone who wants to unnecessarily relive the emotional trauma of having your heart shattered into a billion pieces. The song is about the failures of reconnecting with a loved one after painful years apart. If you can get through the song without having a crippling, tear-soaked breakdown, then you likely have no heart. You also might find that the lyrics are uncannily similar to a drunken text you might send your ex. Mary Caldera noticed this similarity and decided to test it out on her ex-boyfriend, Matt. Poor Matt clearly didn’t get the reference. Naturally, Matt assumed Mary was just drunk texting him, and his deadpan and confused response is brilliant. If you think Mary was cruel for texting Matt and getting his hopes up, well, she didn’t stop there. She also posted the entire exchange on Twitter, much to our delight!
