Photographer Puts Famous Objects Into Incredible Perspective

Humans have a pretty good sense whether an object is small or large, but sometimes a bit of added perspective can drive the point home. For example, we know that Central Park in New York City is large, but unless you’ve been there (sometimes even then), it’s difficult to truly conceptualize how large it is.

One Imgur user, KevinWisbith, created a stunning series of photographs that aim to put the size of real-life landmarks and objects into perspective. By simply superimposing objects from one scene to another, he defines the nature of size in the real world so well. You have to see them for yourself — my description doesn’t do these photos justice.

Leave a COMMENT about the picture you found the most surprising.

Let’s start off with an object surely everyone knows: the Titanic.

We all know that the ship was considered the biggest and best cruise liner in its day and age, but if you were asked how big the ship really was, it would be surprisingly difficult to answer. Another type of enormous ship is an aircraft carrier. Pictured here is the Titanic sitting on top of the USS Ronald Reagan, which happens to be 1,092 feet long. The Titanic measured nearly 883 feet long, leaving only a small amount of deck left on the aircraft carrier.

Everyone knows that the B-2 is one of the stealthiest bombers in the U.S. Air Force’s fleet, but many people probably don’t realize its enormous wingspan (172 feet).

The B-2 bomber is put into perspective by placing it on a professional football field. The bomber would be 12 feet wider.

The Mir Mine in Russia is 1,722 feet deep and is considered one of the deepest mines in the world.

To truly appreciate the depth of this mine, KevinWisbith superimposed Willis Tower directly into the mine. Formerly known as Sears Tower, this skyscraper is 108 stories and 1,729 feet tall.

When the M-1 rocket engine was designed by NASA, it would have been the largest to ever exist (14-foot diameter).

This means that the engine would have been able to fully envelop a smart car.
